Scholarships and Grants

North Carolina Scholars Who Wish to Study in Scotland

The Society will offer one more scholarship to students wishing to study in Scotland. The scholarships may be for a single semester for students pursuing a semester abroad program ($2,500) or for an academic year ($5,000) for student pursuing a junior year abroad or an undergraduate/graduate degree. It is expected that the recipients will enroll in a Scottish university. The choice of the university and field of study is left to the student who must handle all the arrangements with the university. The Scholarships will be paid directly to the university and are for one semester/ year. Scholarships for subsequent years must be separately applied for.


Applicants must be a bona fide resident of North Carolina, either a native or a resident for an appreciable number of years. They must have at least one prominent line of Scottish ancestry. Applications should be received by January 15th. Applicants will be notified of the results in late March/early April.

Scottish Arts Scholarships

The St. Andrew’s Society of North Carolina is dedicated to preserving and promoting Scottish culture and arts in North Carolina and throughout the United States. In pursuance of this goal, it offers the following scholarships in Piping Drumming and Scottish Dance.

North American Academy of Piping and Drumming:

· Two Week Piping and Drumming sessions (board and tuition) - $1,470

· One Week Piping and Drumming sessions (board and tuition) - $685

· One Week Piping and Drumming session (day student / meals) - $605

Requirements: Applicants must complete and submit the application form with a photograph, a description of the program being attended and a letter of recommendation from your teacher or person with knowledge of your participation and achievements in Scottish piping or drumming.

Funds will be paid directly to the North American Academy of Piping and Drumming.


School of Scottish Arts

The St. Andrew’s Society of North Carolina is offering three (3) scholarships of $650 to the School of Scottish Arts Summer Program for full time residential students.

Requirements: Applicants must complete and submit the application form with a photograph, a description of the program being attended and a letter of recommendation from your teacher or person with knowledge of your participation and achievements in Scottish dance.

Funds will be paid directly to the School of Scottish Arts.


The Scholarship committee will determine scholarship winners on or before April 25. All applicants will be notified by email by that date.


The completed application must be mailed to the St. Andrew’s Society of North Carolina, PO Box 3, Southern Pines, NC 28388. It must be received no later than March 15th.
